AWATOA Creators is where curiosity sparks creativity. It is a hands-on maker space where our people explore, experiment, and build confidence through making, storytelling, and cultural design.
Through creative exploration, collaborative learning, and prototyping, rangatahi develop practical skills while strengthening their connection to identity and culture. From early ideas to tangible creations, Creators lays the foundation for problem-solving, expression, and deeper creative development.
This programme is for intermediate schools in Porirua. We offer 8 spots every school term for 8 different school groups of 10-12 tauira. These groups spend 2 hours weekly for 8 weeks working on 8 different projects, using their creative minds to create with recyclable materials, such as paper, egg cartons, cardboard, textiles and more.
Your school is not in our Term programme? Don’t worry! Our holiday programmes are open to whanau and community, ages 8 to 16. We offer different 2-hour Creative workshops during school holiday. Each session has 15 spots. You can book your tickets by clicking on the events of your choice. Materials included, join and enjoy!
Making recycled paper
from scratch!
Join our paper-making session and learn how to create handmade recycled paper using shredded paper as the base material. Personalize your paper with colour paints, herbs and glitter to add a rustic texture, scents and a colourful vibe. Have fun creating your own one-of-a-kind recycled paper!

Crafting a little notebook!
Have fun with us crafting a little notebook using your recycled paper. Hand-stitch your recycled paper and decorate the front and back cover to capture your style. — Don't worry about the stitching part: all the parts will have a super easy to follow stitching pre-cutted line!
